Do you have a physical presence in Asia? If not, is your ISP/registrar acting as a local contact for you? If so, are you 100% happy with this arrangement?

So I am in the UK and would like to register my business name however I am not in the asia market (yet) I did plan on it within this to next year.

Yet another way to make money for those registars. Yawn!
There is in the end but two TLDs that count: .com and any local country for local services. All the rest is for those who either forgot to register their domain names when it was time to do so (and/or got beaten to it), or for those not checking the domain was available when they chose their name for their business.

For all of us who are smart enough to register our domains this is just useless expenses to protect our name.
Drat, I don't qualify because of the geographic restriction.
fant.asia is good... I'd be going for euthan.asia too. Maybe gymn.asia or austral.asia.
My application is still pending! I dont know how long it will take but I am counting the days.

I bet you .World .Earth and much more will come out soon! Why not! These registrars are making good money and also great commission off the bids.

I'm just reading through the PDFs and under 5.3 Landrush it says that The same auction process as described above in 5.2 will be followed for the Landrush applications, except that no verifications will be conducted and information about other Applicants for the same domain name will not be distributed prior to the commencemnt of the auction.

So, what does it say under 5.2 SR2 and SR3: Auction Process?

Yes. I applied for these during the Sunrise period and have already been awarded the names.

The documentation on the .asia registry site seems to explain it pretty clearly. They're letting people register during the landrush (i.e., now), and then they are going live with the domains in March.

I have all the documentation and there is no mention of any date other than 12th and 26th March, I have copied above ad verbatim their rules.

If they feel that they're getting me to enter into a Dutch Auction then they're very mistaken, that's a very silly game to attempt to play.
From what I have read this in not a first come first serve landrush. Domains will be assigned by the registry until the end of the landrush period, and they'll accept more than one application per domain. If you're the only applicant for the domain during this period you get the name. If not there is a closed auction between the parties who applied for the same name.
IMHO this is not very well thought out.

Since they're already advertising upcoming auctions from 17th March do you reckon this means that if nothing has been noted as auction then we have succeeded with any/all applications?

No, I was mistaken, it looks like the landrush lasts through today (March 12). Then .ASIA goes live on March 20.
The first-come-first-serve registration will start on March 20/21 depending on where you are.

The bids are for domain names with more than one applications (keyword here is application, it is not registration). Those who did not applied for the auctioned domain will not be able to auction for it.

Sunrise is for people and entities who owns trademarks, be it registered or unregistered.

If your domain do not show up, then it is either no one applied for it, or someone will challenge your claim later because they hold the trademark for it (for example). Additionally, you can not expect registrars around the world to provide and receive data updates live.

You may see your domain being auctioned off for you and the other applicants later. The internet is not perfect, humans are not perfect, technology is not perfect. Expect delays.

Example, we were trying to register a domain name via three popular registrars. Then we received an email that it was cancelled due to the fact that it was been awarded to someone who owns that trademark (although we are going to contest it). It shows how the updates are delayed between dotAsia and the registrars.

TBH, this is a very well thought out process compared to .us and .eu
So something should've happened by now, it's gone the witching hour and nothing is showing anywhere.

Are you saying that if I am the only applicant for a specific domain name that it may not be awarded at all pending an unapplied for possible trademark?

This entire process has been dragged out for far too long, I'm already losing interest in even using the names!
I heard that the registrar (Asia.Asia) saves some good names for themselves then the good domains go for auction. This way THEY will make some good profit on very good names!

I'm starting to feel like a Yo-yo...I was excited but now frustrated.

I was on the phone with some registrar and they said, people who have pre-registered for domains should wait another 12-24 hours to hear back from .Asia registry. Basically he was saying we should give .Asia time to distribute the results of ownership.

I just called Asia.Asia registry and they said they only deal with registrars. Basically any question I asked, they said ask the registrar who you purchased the domain with.

A bunch of useless people....
I called the registrar company and they said they dont know when they will be approved however, did mention the applications which were rejected.

They also said they would not be able to give a rough estimate of when my pending applications would be approved because it would hurt their companies image if they were wrong!
I think I may have an answer. Here is an update:

First of all the Land rush period is now closed and they are taking no further applications until March 26th at open registration.

For those domains of which there are only ONE applicant, that applicant should receive notice of approval on 3/18/2008 (March 18th , at the earliest)

After that, within one week those domains with multiple applications will be entered into an auction and the applicants will be notified bidding details through the their own registrars via email.

Currently there is little information at either the .Asia registry or the individual registrars as the applications are pending third party verification.
Good grief, with all the computing power in Asia it wouldn't be very difficult to build a program that could handle multiple applications with the press of a button.

I presume that everyone who has applied for names had to go through the same process as myself therefore why is it so difficult to confirm single application names?
